The Danube, the second largest river in Europe, after its flow through many cities and countries, meets the Black Sea creating a meeting point which benefited the creation of the Danube Delta known as one of the greatest wetlands of the planet. The stretches of water and land of this delta offer good living conditions for many species of plants and animals.
GIS technology is an important tool in the analysis of geographic areas.
The purpose of this study was to create maps using a set of GIS technologies that present geographic aspects of the Danube Delta wetland. Since September 1990, the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve has been recognized as a wetland of international recognition, especially for its water birds habitat. The value of the World Heritage Site of the Danube Delta Biosphere Reserve was recognized in December 1990, and more than half of its surface was included into the World Cultural and Natural Heritage List.
