One of the reasons for spontaneous combustion of coal waste dumps is the air intake into the body of a dump. Despite the measures taken to isolate the bases and dump slopes, spontaneous combustion of dumps occur in many countries around the world. That breeds a hypothesis that spontaneous combustion process is facilitated by placement of a dump in the geodynamically active zone of the earth's crust. In geodynamically active zone, due to its high permeability, the interaction of the dumps with environment occurs.
Previous studies have shown that cases of spontaneous combustion are related to the dumps? confinedness to geodynamically active zones within the territory of the East Donbass. To explain the possible mechanism of gases mass transfer through the geodynamically active zone, an appropriate geometric model is been developing including supporting data for boundary conditions for computer modeling.
The geometrical model proposed in this paper is oriented on calculations using the ANSYS program. It includes several elements and takes into account location of a dump relative to the geodynamically active zone, size of a dump, depth of the geodynamically active zone penetration into the massif, distance to the mine worked-out area and depth of its location, porosity and permeability of the basic model elements.
Results of the study are the model parameters and boundary conditions that correspond to the real mining and geological situation in the area of Shakhty city in the East Donbass, and the vector model of the gases mass movement.
Conclusions: modeling results prove efficiency of the model under given boundary conditions and provide stronger arguments in favor of the hypothesis of air entering the body of a dump, taking into account the geodynamics of the area.
