At present the extraordinary and earlier unprecedented development of the industry is observed. The scale of the production of different goods is huge and concerns many areas on our planet. Some of these areas were not industrialized till today. Their development from the one hand gives the social and economic benefits ? like the life conditions improvement, money transfer, but from the other hand requires the location of new production lines or even plants. In many of them the old, worn out machines and the technologies many times harmful for human health and dangerous or toxic for natural environment are used.
The requirement for new goods equals the requirement for the technology. Many goods are produced from metals. Their machining may be different, for example they can be grinding. The grinding is a type of machining which gives not only precise dimensions but also smooth surface. But during the grinding some environmental problems appear: not only raw materials use, energy consumption, tools waste, but in the first place metallic dust, cutting-tool lubricant and suspension of this dust in the fluid. There are some metals which requires special regimen and during the machining of them, metallic dust or toxic oxides arises. Their inhalation can give problems with lungs or skin. In the paper the case study of the laser usage for surface polishing is presented. Authors describe their results of the investigation of machining effectiveness and the surface accuracy after laser beam impact. The results of the roughness measurement are shown. The microscopic view on the surface is also shown to prove good surface form without metallic inclusions or other changes which can be a consequence of the high energy beam usage. The conclusions are quite good: the laser technology may be useful and can replace traditional methods of metals polishing (e.g. grinding) without the air pollutants in given range of the accuracy. |
