Eco-system services, particularly agricultural eco-system services as landscape functions are defined as goods and services provided that contribute to human well-being. The aim of the study is to evaluate the capability of sustainable providing agricultural eco-services - landscapes as base of innovative activities in the rural areas. The following aspects as the tasks have been covered in the study: to evaluate sustainability aspects of Latvian agricultural landscapes, as agricultural eco-system services; to investigate the potentialities of social innovations? development based on agricultural landscapes. The findings show: that the expected positive effect of implementing agri-environmental measures of Rural Development Program 2007-2013 in Latvia on the sustainability and resilience of agricultural landscapes, as a provider of eco-system services, as well as conservation of agricultural biodiversity has not been received; and there are numerous of potential social innovations, which are based on agricultural landscapes.
