Heavily loaded production lines for metal surface treatment gradually lose reliability and are subject to both physical and moral ageing. For this reason their replacement by a more advanced equipment is necessary and it is the most effective action. In addition to the production process efficiency improvement, this action provides also better parameters as to the environmental protection. The modernization undertaken also meets the requirements for BAT techniques. The paper handles also potential effect of the project on public health in parameters of physical and chemical harmful substances which will be released in a lower amount than actually after the project implementation. This is documented by modelled emissions from the planned plant in noise study and study of dispersion of relevant chemical substances. The representative selected for the assessment of effect of emissions from the future plant is butoxyethanol which is not included in emissions from any other local source. The comparison of the actual and expected future effect of emissions from the paint shop resulted in a conclusion that a slight reduction of the overall exposure load on local permanent residents is expected. The noise and emission modelling confirms that the commissioning of modern paint shop equipment with lower emissions to environment will lead to a slight health risk reduction in terms of chemical substances while the noise exposure health risk will remain more or less at the actual level.
