At the heart of many modern environmental problems lie a variety of chemical processes. Therefore, unfortunately, often in chemistry see only the cause of the violation of ecological balance in nature, which gives rise to the desire to declare it as the culprit of all environmental ills. However, without chemistry, mankind can't comfortably exist and, most importantly, solve the accumulated environmental problems. This article is aimed at consideration of some authors' developments, which are the result of their more than forty years of research and production activity in the field of physical chemistry and chemical technology of the vitreous state of matter, which are convincing confirmation of what was said above. Examples are given of the rational use of science of chemistry in various fields, ensuring environmental safety of the environment and improving the state of the ecosystem. In particular, the importance of selecting the material of high-voltage electrical insulators ensuring trouble-free operation of power lines, and therefore ensuring the absence of a negative impact on the environment, is shown. A number of examples of creation of non-waste productions are considered. Taking into account the fact that glassmaking is one of the unfavorable environmental industries, much attention is paid to the development of unconventional heattechnical devices that provide energy efficiency, ecological purity and universality, which consists in the possibility of using for the production of the vast majority of range of industry and application possibilities in other industries. Much attention is paid to phosphorus-containing vitreous fertilizer of prolonged action, as well as the development of sorbents for cleaning water areas from oil and oil products pollution, primarily in case of emergency spills. In all material science developments, natural raw materials as well as raw materials from the dumps of production are maximally used, which provides an additional environmental effect.
