Water Framework Directive 2000/60 / EC is considered a progressive and innovative legislative measure which should lead to improved of surface water in Europe. One important factor contributing to the impairment of surface water quality is the use of chemical and organic fertilizers, which through runoff or leaching in water table can cause the phenomenon of pollution of surface waters and groundwater. In a river basin, the factors that determine the nutrient loads are: industry, urban sewage, atmospheric deposition, agriculture and natural system. In this paper there were done studies on soil fertilization, crops and water quality in a river basin of Dolj county, namely basin Desn??ui, totaling a hydrographic area of 1764 km2 and the hydrographic network is represented by main courses water: Desn??ui with the affluent Terpezita and Baboia. In this basin are 9 affluents of the 1st order and 5 affluents of the 2nd order. There have been analyzed all the communes (13 communes) in this river basin regarding the use of chemical and organic fertilizers, which ranged from 20.1 to 40.2 kg active substance/ha and for organic ones between 1-9 kg N/ha, as well as the water quality in the water course Desn??ui in 2011 - Radovan point, at six dates of determination. We have analyzed the following indicators: dissolved oxygen, N-NH4, N-NO3, N-NO2, Nt and Pt. Nitrites, total nitrogen and total phosphorus have, to all the data of determinations, values over MAC, and ammonium content exceeds MAC at 3 dates of determinations: 06.05.2011, 15.07.2011 and 11.11.2011, and dissolved oxygen values are elevated over MAC (9 mg/l) on 10.03.2011 and 06.05.2011, otherwise the other four determinations in April, June, September and November have values below the MAC.
