This study investigates the weed vegetation in vineyards of Rahovec region in Kosovo. Along with far-reaching political and socio-economic alterations, agricultural land use has changed in the recent past in the Kosovo. To increase the knowledge on the weed vegetation in vineyards, we recorded the vegetation of 100 plots with a standard plot size of 25 m?. To avoid edge effects, the minimum distance of each plot to the field border was 10 m. The location of each plot was documented with the help of a GPS using the UTM system. The abundance of vascular plants was estimated based on a modified Braun-Blanquet scale. A total number of 54 weed species was documented. The most dominant species were: Chenopodium album, Fallopia convolvulus, Amaranthus retroflexus, Polygonum aviculare and Cirsium arvense. In fields with mechanical cultivation, the average number was 11.5 plants/25 m2. Intensive cultivation (within rows: 8.4 plants/25 m2, between rows: 7.8 plants/25 m2), the old cultivation system (9.3 plants/25 m2) and in cultivation system "Y" (10.8 plants/25 m2) are characterized by lower species densities. 82.0 % of the recorded species are broadleaf species and 18.0% are grasses. The vineyards weed species of Rahovec region are mostly heliophylic species of moist and moderate warm habitats, of weak acidic to basic and moderately fertile soils. Regarding to the life forms of the recorded species, therophytes (60.0%) and hemicryptophytes (31.0%) were the most important groups, geophytes (8.0%) and others (1.0%) were of less importance. The mechanical and agro technical weed control in the early spring, which is practiced by most of farmers, but also the use of total herbicides in vineyards, counteract the formation of species-rich arable weed vegetation.
