The Leningrad Region is a big/one the main subject of the Russian Federation with a highly developed industrial, transport and scientific potential. The article provides an analysis of some environmental problems typical for this region. Based on the aggregation of statistical information, data is provided on the structure and dynamics of total emissions, air pollutants, as well as emissions and sinks of greenhouse gases in various sectors of the economy of the Leningrad region. The features of deposition of substances in the territory as a result of trans-boundary transfer are revealed. The information about the ecological state of the largest water bodies of the region (Ladoga Lake and the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland) is summarized. The main sources of pollutant supply and consequences for the considered aquatic ecosystems are considered. The main pollutants that determine the quality of the waters of the eastern part of the Gulf of Finland are listed. Data on the assessment of the nutrient load on the Gulf of Finland coming from the Russian part of the catchment area is given.
