Taking into consideration that Romania is confronted with many difficulties in the treatment of wastewater, especially in its rural and less populated areas, this paper proposes to present some possibilities to increase the treatment capacity of wastewater in a small Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) plant. The functioning of the SBR operation compartment was automated by using predefined time, i. e., a programmable controller. In order to identify the possible ways in which the wastewater treatment capacity could be increased, the entire experimental period (between 01st June and 31st July) was divided into three subperiods in which different operating times were used for the SBR compartment. At the end of each subperiod, the realized degree of purification was determined for each of the quality indicators that we had in view. The results obtained have revealed that the experimental installation can achieve high levels of treatment when the operating times are optimized even if the influents present some quality variation.
