In the western half of the Getic Subcarpathians, between Motru and Olte? is individualized one of the largest and unitary Carpathian depression areas, The Sub-Carpathian Depression of Oltenia. The Sub-Carpathian Depression of Oltenia, the sector between Olte? and Motru, is extended from East to West, for about 60 km, on an area of 130231 Ha.To the Mezorelief level, there are the following forms of landscapes: The groove of Internal Sub-Carpathian Depression, The Internal Carpathian Hills, The External Depression Groove and, not at least, The External Carpathian Hills. From geological point of view, the Sub-Carpathian sector between Olte? and Motru, like the entire Sub-Carpathian region, is a part of The Great Pre-Carpathian Depression including the ?flis? area. Waters that give life to the Carpathian Depression of Oltenia includes the surface waters and the underground waters.
All valleys with the starting point in The Southern Carpathians, go across the four segments of Carpathian landscapes, having a consistent and epigenetic character at the base of the mountain ?gruiuri? and a transversal character on the Groove Depression and the Median Hills. The formation and evolution of the soils encountered in the depression is closely related to the morphology of the landscape and to all the pedogenetic factors that led to the individualization of different types of soils. The particularity of the soil types is related to the formation and evolution of the red soils encountered in the Sub-Carpathian Depression of Oltenia, on a surface of 6250 Ha, having two directions of the soil formation. The current processes of shaping the landscapes causes discontinuity in the plant coat by the space dominating of the vegetal groups, in which floral composition have an important weight the hemicryptophytes and the terrophytes.Being located in the South-West of the country, The Sub-Carpathian Depression of Oltenia is, on the most part of the year, under the influence of Southern, South-Western and Western air masses. Also because of the diversity of the landscapes, climatic conditions are different favoring the appearance of microclimates. The results presented are partial research aiming the red soil suitability for main crops. |
