In this paper consumer preferences for organic and traditional products are analyzed, regarding the level of consumer responsibility towards consumption which supports sustainable development. This study was conducted by a market research in Arad city, Romania, in 2016 on a representative sample, estimating the consumer preferences for organic products and traditional products. Arad county area is an important agricultural basin, with a rich tradition in traditional food products. These product categories are among the products that support sustainable development. The purpose of this paper is to highlight these products as they are known, the reasons why consumers choose these products, how often choose to consume these product categories. The research results show that it is also very encouraging that the consumption of both organic products and traditional products is quite high, and consumers are pleased with their quality and are motivated to buy them as healthy products.
