In the efforts to improve products and processes, it is getting more and more important to implement integrated management systems in companies to enable comprehensive and synergistic solutions to problems arising in different areas of the business activity. Environmental management is usually the key component of an integrated management system, in particular in relation to improving environmental performance of products and processes. An inherent element of the integrated management system concept is the extent of managers? and employees? participation in its implementation and improvement. Therefore, it is essential to investigate the issues related to integrated management systems adopting the standpoint of the two groups. This paper presents theoretical considerations and results of empirical research aiming to analyse the specificity, benefits, problems and factors affecting the functioning of the environmental management system within an integrated management system. The issues under consideration are discussed from the perspective of both the company managers and employees.
