A new mineralogical mobile phone application was created named Mineralmicr. Mineralmicr is an application that includes for the first time in a mobile phone application or computer program or in general on internet a database of 60 common minerals under petrographic microscope. In these videos the optical properties of each mineral are explained in detail using English subtitles. Mineralmicr is an application in which the user can identify the minerals under petrographic microscope by using nine specific filters that each one corresponds to a specific optical property. This way by using the application the user can chose isotropic/anisotropic, relief, colour, pleochroism, cleavage, cleavage angle, birefringence, extinction and interference figure. After each choice (e.g. 1, 2 or no cleavage) the number of the possible remaining minerals decreases. If the user determines all, or distinctive properties, it would be just 1 mineral left leading thus to a successful mineral identification. If the user is not able to do that, then more than one possible mineral will be remaining. In this case by watching and compare with the videos can still identify the observed mineral. Mineralmicr is a new application that offers for the first time the opportunity to the user to identify all the minerals studied in a thin section under the petrographic microscope in a faster and more secure way. Therefore this application can be a significant tool in the study of all common minerals under petrographic microscope and in teaching earth science and especially teaching mineralogy. Additionally students working with Mineralmicr can be more familiar with English terminology as well as learning more easily the optical properties of the common minerals.
