Throughout a life cycle of a hydrocarbon reservoir, investments and specific approaches are made correlated with its stages and with the asset management?s goals to maximize its value.
When the field reaches the maturity stage, the exploitation strategy focuses on reducing the production decline profile and improving the recovery factor. These activities, typically consist of determining the remaining hydrocarbon in place, identifying the bypassed hydrocarbons, identifying the recompletion opportunities, all attaching value to the asset, which can be then converted by a re-development plan into economic benefits. The complex process of characterizing and re-evaluating the reservoir will generate a portfolio of development opportunities such us sidetrack the active wells or re-entry the old wells to bypass formation damage or mechanical problems to access the pay zone, stimulation methods to reduce the skin effect nearby wellbore through washing acidizing, re-perforation with noninvasive techniques. The current paper intends to address theoretical and practical aspects related to the use of some techniques to revitalize the mature gas fields, in accordance with reservoir conditions encountered in the re-evaluation process. The aspects that will be addressed in the paper will include technical considerations underlying the selection of the revitalization method. |
