Existing EU standards for environmental protection are strictest in the world. Environmental policy helps to create a green economy, protect the environment, and take care of the health and quality of life of the people of the EU. The nature and content of environmental policy at the EU level was analyzed and the main requirements and trends in its development are specified. The analysis covered trends and potential areas for improvement of environmental policy and also the system of principles required to build the EU?s environmental policy and develop appropriate strategies. The main areas of these policies and the features and key indicators to be achieved in their implementation have been determined; and conclusions regarding the structure and content of individual mechanisms of policy implementation highlight that the EU environmental policy is a set of pan-European measures aimed at implementing the tasks and functions for protection and restoration of the environment and sustainable use of natural resources. The regulatory EU environmental policy framework is reviewed, with identification of its most important areas and the means of implementing the main strategic goals.
