The issue concerning reasoning and evaluating the optimal bottom-hole pressures is considered to be one of the challenges in mature oilfield development. Bottom hole pressure optimization is a relevant and researchable problem, and it requires a nuanced approach to a solution development. Operators look to reduce operating costs in mature fields that are approaching cessation of production. The issue of production below the bubble point is therefore becoming more important. The paper investigates how an oil producing company in Tatarstan has been producing below the bubble point with the objective of updating guidelines for producing below the bubble point. The review of scientific and technical literature showed a contradictory attitude to the reduction of downhole pressure below the bubble point pressure. There are two opposing points of view discussed by the authors: the need to operate wells at bottom pressure values close to and above bubble point pressure to prevent complications and significant losses in production; and the possibility of reducing the bottom hole pressure below bubble point pressure to obtain a maximum increase in the production rate, the rate of the reserves development and the oil recovery factor.
