The study aimed to evaluate the variability of some morphological characters and the correlations between these at black pine. The biological material was represented by four populations of black pine, two of southwestern Romania (Herculane and Svinita) and two of central Greece (Kerasia Evia and Ano Polidrosos). The experimental data were collected by biometric measurements conducted "in situ" and were statistically processed in order to determine the variability within the populations, but also the correlation coefficients between the studied characters. For the morphological character evaluated it is found that there are differences between populations. The trunk diameter shows greater variability ro the populations from Romania. The leaf length is more uniform, showing variability only at population Kerasia Evia, population to which, the leaf width is very uniform. The four populations are similar for the cone length variability, but for its diameter are different. The population Ano Polidrosos has a great variability for all characters. Regarding the number of scales on the cone, the populations are similar, this character being uniform. The study of correlation coefficients shows strong links between the cone diameter and trunk diameter, between leaf size and number of scales or sizes cone.
