The effect of ambient conditions on the properties of three different types of concrete containing ground granulated blast furnace slag, silica fume, and waste brick powder as partial Portland cement replacement is studied. The samples are exposed to the external environment in a test facility located in the city of Prague. The upper horizontal surfaces of the specimens are covered so that the wind, rain, snow and sun radiation affect only the vertical surfaces, similarly as in their practical application on building site. The time duration of the experiment is three years while testing of a particular part of the specimens is performed always after one year. Reference samples are tested as well, for the sake of comparison. The testing procedure includes several parameters of the investigated concretes, which are suitable from the point of view of the characterization of damage, namely the bulk density, matrix density, open porosity, compressive strength, bending strength, static and dynamic modulus of elasticity, and surface strength. The experimental results show that a significant deterioration of most parameters did not appear during the three-years long investigations, the main reason being the occurrence of warm winters in the time period of 2012-2015 when the experimental tests were carried out.
