There are numerous technological and material solution in the building sector. As more and more emphasis is laid on the protection of nature in the contemporary world, new pro-ecological solutions are devised all the time. One of the most recent trends in the technological development of civil engineering is green technology. In the construction industry, it primarily means solutions with an aim of attaining efficient management of energy and natural resources, from production of building materials, through design and construction solutions, a period of exploitation, to the recycling of demolition materials. There are many methods for evaluation of buildings in the context of eco-friendly solutions, all of which are based on assessment of various factors. A method which has been recently recommended in the EU Directives and ISO standards it an assessment of the impact on the natural environment over the entire life cycle of a building. This approach is significant in the light of the fact that at each stage, from the preparation of building materials to the demolition of a building, different adverse events may occur. This article presents examples of factors involved in an evaluation of a building in its whole life cycle, together with the suggestion of using such factors and input data for a multi-criteria analysis of an assessment of a building?s impact on the environment. Additionally, it was proposed to use matrices as a starting point for such an evaluation.
