Global warming and climate change are two of the main problems facing the mankind. 70% of cities are dealing with the effects of this phenomenon and nearly all of them are at risk. The larger cities create over 70% of global CO2 emissions and consume 2/3 of the world?s energy, so the focusing on the solution on global warming is heavily depending on future act in major cities. Urban density presents a greener way to live. Because the concrete surface is expanded not only on horizontal but even on vertical, in the last years, the main cities felt the problem of warm up more intensely. As a response to this problem many architects tried to adapt green facades to the new buildings they proposed and even adapt them to the existing ones. The aim of this article is to analyze the efficiency of using green facades on existing buildings and to analyze how can be used in Timisoara, Romania on the old communist buildings as a method of reducing the warming and also as an aesthetic solution to the monotony of those rectangular blocks of flats.
