In the years 2011-2017, 21 boreholes were drilled in the area of the Grodziec syncline as a part of exploration and prospecting works related to copper ores. The borehole recognition was complemented with 2D seismic reflection survey in 2017. As a result, the geological structure of the Grodziec syncline located in the E part of the North Sudetic Synclinorium (south-western Poland) was made more detailed. It is a secondary synclinal unit formed in the alpine orogenesis as a result of block movements of the crystalline substrate.
Obtained geological data influenced the update of geological knowledge of the rock mass. The most noteworthy are seismic data, which brought a new, unprecedented view on the position of fault zones. Seismic results allowed to update the strikes, angles and dip directions of fault zones. Moreover, the spatial interpretation of lithostratigraphic boundaries was made more detailed, showing their variability.
Performed seismic surveys revealed the complexity of interpretation of geological data. 2D seismic survey based on numerous borehole data and geological observations in the former copper ore mine "Konrad" allow for a multitude of rock mass structural interpretations. The current tectonic situation could have been influenced by many elements, including the structure of the Grodziec unit, the multi-phase geological development or a similar lithological structure of particular stratigraphic formations. In this paper the authors present the geological survey performed in the research area and their interpretative capabilities.
