In order to substantiate the location of a production platform, engineering surveys on the shelf have to provide a complex investigation of the geotechnical conditions of the area.
The licensed area (LA) is situated within borders of the Kara Sea shelf. There are a coastal gently sloping and sloping plain and a tectonic bench in the relief of the floor. Geological structure of the region include Mesozoic and Cainozoic slab complex rocks covered by the latest geological deposits. Down to the depth of 50 m they are presented by the clayey rocks of the sea and alluvial genesis.
At the stage of preliminary researches, in order to carry out the assessments of the self-lifting drilling rig operating conditions six wells were drilled, with selection of samples and their laboratory analysis, and a package of geophysical works was carried out. On research results, some sectional views were made, and some parameters of physical and mechanical properties were determined. Some processes and the phenomena concerned with the existence of permafrost rocks and ancient riverbeds, with gas saturation of deposits and others were discovered.
Upon the results of the researches, the preliminary estimate was made of how favorable the conditions on the site are, so as to perform the engineering-geological investigations with the aim of self-lifting drilling rig arrangement.
