The Black Sea has significant potential resources of gas hydrates, gas from seeps and mud volcanos. They are situated in region close to hydrocarbon export consumers. Nowadays the combination of properties of the Black Sea gas seeps phenomenon and its large scale excite great interest of experts of Ukraine and other Black Sea and Western European countries. Gas from seeps consists of methane by 80-99 per cent, so it can be considered as hydrocarbon resource which can be produced without well drilling. Their existence is caused by permanent presence of diaper structures and thick argillaceous layer that causes appearance of abnormally high formation pressure of combustion gases and results in spontaneous gas seepage to the surface. The paper contains consolidated data of geologic information about distribution of gas seeps in the North-West part of the Black Sea. Based on marine field works the main reservoirs of oil and gas fields were compared with seeps areas and the conclusion was made that gas seeps, mud volcanos and hydrocarbon reservoirs may be united into the unified Earth?s interior discharge system. It justifies the need for focused researches on exploration of gas hydrates in the Western Black Sea depression. The author offers to create a permanent-set testing area on one of the deep water mud volcanos in the Black Sea basin for the purpose of investigation of gas hydrates formation scale and elaboration of technology for extraction of that raw material of the future.
