The development of the oil industry, transition to digitalization of fields and development of new technologies require an understanding and forecasting of macroscale processes throughout the porous region, as well as reliable theoretical and numerical models. On the other hand, validation of such models requires knowledge of fluid dynamics in the pore space over a wide range of Reynolds numbers.
To study the basic laws of local hydrodynamics of turbulent filtration flow inside the pores, including boundary layers on the walls of the balls and the channel, we made an experimental stand with a working part, where a simple cubic packing (porosity of 0.476) and octahedral packing (porosity of 0.26) of the balls were organized. The basis of studies of filtration processes in the range of Reynolds numbers of up to 20,000 are based on a refractive index matching (RIM) techniques. A new safe immersion liquid based on iodine and rhodane ammonium with stable characteristics and sufficiently low viscosity was developed. With the use of LDA, a technique has been developed for measuring the average, rms fluctuations, and spectral characteristics of a turbulent filtration flow. The measuring volume of the LDA was 100 ? 30 ?m, which allowed the measurements in the immediate vicinity of the walls of the balls and channel made of optical glass LK-7 with a refractive index of 1.483. Visual pictures of the flow in the indicated packings of balls at various filtration flow rates are shown.
