One of the most effective ways to interpret the geological setting of a deposit is building its 3D model. Presenting data in form of a 3D model enables quick and convenient access to relevant information, facilitates taking decisions associated with deposit management and helps plan mining operations. With a model of the geological setting of a deposit it is possible to prepare different variants of a coal mine model as well as type of mining technology, to tackle work-related safety issues and to achieve optimal economic results and quality. The geological setting model of a deposit is a tool of growing significance and it is more and more commonly used in rational deposit management.
The article presents results of works analyzing possibility of employing a 3D model to manage a hard coal deposit. Initially, a structural/lithological model was generated for a selected unmined hard coal deposit in the area of the Upper Silesia Coal Basin (Poland). The presented elements of the model were prepared using Petrel software and Geolisp system. Then, the methods of 3D visualization of mine workings in active and designed hard coal mines are presented. Possibility of employing a 3D model to plan mining operations in a deposit of hydrocarbons ? methane as the main commodity (CBM) is demonstrated. Other applications of a 3D deposit model are presented, e.g. for numerical forecasts of mining subsidence. |
