This article argues that dynamic capabilities are a special type of specific resource embedded in the organizational structure of an enterprise, the purpose of which is to increase the productivity of using other resources available to the enterprise. By definition, dynamic capabilities, along with resources, can generate enterprise profits or act as a source of economic rent, due to the effective management of available potential. Therefore, this article attempts to assess the contribution of dynamic capabilities to the development of enterprises on the example of the mining sector of the Russian economy. The choice of the mining industry is not accidental, since it has been demonstrating the highest growth rates in the last fifty years compared to other Russian industries. Starting from the 60s of the previous century, mining industry products provide the Russian economy with up to 60% of exported products annually. At the same time, starting from 2000 and up to the present, there has been an increase in production per capita of more than 2 times, an increase in the share of expenditures on technological innovations (from 8.5 million rubles in 2003 to 13.6 million rubles) in 2017, as well as an increase in the number of employees. The main hypothesis of the study is that in conditions of limited resources, the main factor for productivity growth should be dynamic capabilities, which we identify through indicators of market share, company value and cost of goods produced. The results obtained contribute to the theory of dynamic capabilities in terms of explaining the role of dynamic capabilities in increasing the productivity of using existing resources, as well as the role of dynamic capabilities as a source of economic rent in developing economies.
