Conveyor belts are used for conveying both loose and lump materials in surface mines. During their transport, especially in the places of pouring these materials, where the material is crushed due to a large impact height, a large amount of dust is generated. This makes problems in the actual operation due to fire or explosion hazards, and also by fouling up the vicinity of conveyor belts and transfer points. The resulting dust also poses a threat to the health of operators. Most of the resulting dust accumulates in the vicinity of the dust source, but particles less than 5?m remain in the air permanently and can be distributed over large distances according to weather conditions, thereby endangering the health of people living around a surface mine. Many technical solutions can be used to eliminate dust on conveyor belts, for which the common solution is the use of variously shaped covers for the transfer points. Different types of impact beds can also be used, with the impact part designed to lower the amount of crushed coal and allowing for the use of vertical side seals. The aim of this article is to compare 2 technical solutions, which are used to prevent dust leakage from conveyor belts into the air. There is a wet method of dust removal, represented by sprinkling the transported material or misting the area of dust, and a dry method of dust extraction and its elimination from an air mass using a filtration device.
