The involved geological structure of the Bilina Mine complicates mining of overburden materials and it is necessary to make movement of the large mining machines in the risk zones safe, so that they are not endangered. A lot of risks is connected with mining and some of them can be categorized as so-called uninfluenced risks. Areas broken by tectonic processes or strongly inclined layers on overburden cuts are such hazards. Those in quarrying negatively affect mining in many aspects. Due to a landslide there is a temporary decrease in planned mining, sometimes it is even necessary to re-evaluate the original mining intentions. This has an impact, of course, on the mining economy. Last but not least, it can endanger human lives and damage mining equipment. This is evidenced by the extraordinary events caused by the slides of mined material on mining machines. In this lecture the categorization of risk zones and determining the degree of risk given failure due to movement of large mining machine is described and then description of the most serious disorders caused by mining in these zones. We will also deal with the possibility of predicting these risks through geotechnical monitoring, tracking the wheel position of the large mining machine per GPS. This system in combination with geological profiles significantly advances mining in risk zones.
