SELECTED METHODS OF BLASTING WORKS EFFICIENCY ASSESSMENT

The efficiency of drilling and blasting works can be assessed in many ways, depending on the desired effect. The evaluation can be performed on the basis of the quality of the explosives used for rock extraction. On the other hand, the correct assessment should include the results of drilling and blasting works. One of the parameters that are commonly used in the quality evaluation of explosives is the in situ velocity of detonation measurement, which is a direct indicator of the efficiency of the utilised explosives. It is worth mentioning that the quality of explosives is very important for the appropriate blasting process and should be subject to regular verification by means of in situ measurements. Due to the fact that fragmentation of blasted rock is very important for all further steps of the mining cycle, it is natural to use grain size distribution analysis as another factor for drilling and blasting works efficiency assessment. It may be performed using various image-based particle sizing software. The article describes selected methods that can be used for the evaluation of in situ drilling and blasting works efficiency, including detonation velocity measurements and fragmentation analysis based on photogrammetric methods.
