The information technology input for the building life cycle is more and more intensive, starting with design, through realization and including the use and the operation of the building. The progress in this field is represented by Building Information Modelling (BIM). BIM is in its base object-oriented 3D model of the building, which includes information about the structure, elements and their parameters. This paper is aimed at the proposal of information model for documentation and management of pipeline bridges in industrial plants. The content and the structure of three main parts of a BIM model (the graphical data, the non-graphical data and the documents) are proposed. To create a functional information model, the available information (often from the original analogue documentation if exist) have to be verified in situ. Part of the paper is devoted to the role of the surveyors and the surveying methods in the procedure of creation of building information model of pipeline bridges.
