This paper deals with the calculation of rock volume located in the hard-to-reach terrain of a water dam. During the reconstruction of the safety slip of the water dam, it was necessary to remove this rock and to determine the volume extracted at a particular stage of the construction. In addition, calculations of the total amount of rock above the given coordinates of the reconstruction project were solved. The reason was the need to know the amount of rock that still needs to be excavated to get the builders to a certain height level and also to know the total volume of rock to be removed from the construction site. This information facilitates site planning work. When acquiring spatial data, unmanned aerial systems and GNSS RTK apparatus were used. With these technologies, data was taken to create a 3D terrain model (DSM) before blasting. Subsequently, the same method was used to obtain data for DSM after rock blasting. By comparing these two DSMs, it was possible to locate sites with rock loss and to calculate the exact volume of the blasted rock. The DSM also served to determine the rock volume above the coordinates. The drone data represents in detail the rugged terrain that is difficult to access and therefore difficult to map with current methods. In such a terrain, the surveyor movement is very difficult and can be dangerous. Therefore, the non-contact UAV measurement method offers advantages in minimizing the risk of surveyor injury in hazardous areas. This article describes UAV volume determination methods.
