Rapid urbanization encourages the transformation of natural zones into impermeable zones. Because of that, increasing in runoff and decreasing in water quality from urban areas have been appeared. As a solution of these problems, a plenty of technologies related to the stormwater management in urban areas have been developed. The main aim of these technologies is to minimize the environmental degradation. One of the developed solutions is Low Impact Development (LID) technology, which combines measures for pollution control with the hydrological engineering approach.
This paper presents the analysis based on comparison of different LID technologies with the classical stormwater drainage system from the impervious surfaces in an urban environment. Roofs, streets and parking lots are analysed as the impervious surfaces using two variant solutions. As a case study, the settlement Gornji Katun located near to the city Varvarin in Serbia was chosen. The results indicated the advantage in using LID technology in comparison to the classical stormwater drainage system, especially because the application of the LID technology has enabled drastic reduction of stormwater quantities through the sewage network.
