In hydrosystem tailraces, behind end fixings of spillway facilities, scour basins of considerable depth and length are formed at high rates of the flow. This is associated with the violation of the extreme load mode during the construction and operation of hydrosystems, insufficient design length of fixings in tailraces, and inefficiency of installed baffles. Baffles based on soft water-filled shells are proposed as additional protection facilities of operating hydrosystem tailraces. The morphological analysis of soft water-filled hydraulic facilities was carried out, taking into account technological aspects of the use of baffles in hydrosystem tailraces. Based on the calculation of connection of the Cheboksary hydroplant spillway dam races, initial requirements were defined, a theoretical model was chosen, and a calculation algorithm for baffles based on soft water-filled shells was developed in MathCad. To check the adequacy of the developed automated calculation algorithm, an experimental study of the performance of the baffles on a scale model was performed. Kinematic flow characteristics in the hydrosystem tailrace were measured in a hydraulic flume on the model at a scale of 1:100, using an automated thermoanemometer system. We determined statistical criteria of confidence probability and obtained regression equations, the reproducibility of which was checked by the Cochran criterion. The adequacy of the theoretical model was established based on the results of laboratory measurements and evaluation of correlation coefficients. The analysis of flow velocity diagrams during the operation of the water-filled soft shells showed their high efficiency as facilities protecting the hydrosystem tailraces from scouring.
