Approaching the issue of fertilizers with organic substances of the bio stimulants class is a difficult task as the concept is far from complete elucidation. As concerned the use in agriculture of these products, legislation, research, and experimental activities are still incipient.
Any substance or microorganism applied to plants with the purpose to enhance nutrition efficiency, abiotic stress, and/or crops quality features regardless of their nutrient content can be generally defined as a product with bio stimulant effect upon plants.
This paper presents two new biofertilizers with organic substances: HidroFert which contains protein hydrolisates of vegetal origin (a mixture of peptides and free amino-acids) and AlgaFert which contains an algae (Ascophyllum nodosum) extract. In addition to the organic substances, both fertilizers contain macronutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) and trace elements (iron, copper, zinc, manganese, and boron).
A pot trial was carried out in order to investigate the effect of the experimental biofertilizers on soybean yield. Fertilizers ? in concentrations of 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.50% - were applied by foliar spraying. The testing was performed in comparison with a untreated control and a control with fertilized soil at a rate of N45P45K45.
By foliar application of the experimental fertilizers there were obtained relative yields ranging between 2.25% and 36.44% as compared with the N45P45K45 control. The highest yields were obtained by application of the fertilizer with algae extract, irrespective of the concentration of the solution used.
