The paper illustrates the problem of building a long tree-ring chronology for the steppe and forest-steppe zones of Transbaikalia. Here we use cores from Pinus sylvestris living trees and historical buildings from Chita. After measuring 122 wood samples, we created 571-year chronology based on the annual tree-ring width (from 1447 to 2017). The annual tree-rings width was measured in the CooRecorder program; standardization was made by Regional Curve Standardization (ASTAN). The statistical parameters of the chronology indicated its suitability for climate reconstructions in the period from 1550 to 2017 (EPS?0.85). Climatic response analysis, made on 7 nearby weather stations showed its suitability for the reconstruction of moisture (droughts) in the steppe and forest-steppe zone of Transbaikalia. The result is important as for explanation the social (migration) processes in the past, as solving a number of fundamental and applied issues (assessing and forecasting the effects of climate change, dating wooden historical and archaeological objects, examination of illegal logging, etc.).
