3D plastic is a modern three-dimensional printing material that is very popular among home and professional 3D printers using layer-by-layer fusing technology (FDM).
Today, in professional three-dimensional modeling, two main types of plastic thread are used - synthetic ABS and biodegradable PLA, which are converted into finished products in industrial FDM printers. Products from 3D printer are usually single-action models, which must be disposed of after use. However, synthetic polymers are not able to decompose in the environment, so they represent an environmental burden. It is worth noting that the cost of these plastics on the market remains high, especially for PLA plastic. In addition, these materials are subject to significant volume shrinkage in the process of 3D printing.
In order to solve the tasks, studies have been conducted to study the effectiveness of the use of thermally modified wood filler in the composition of the polymer for 3D printers. Data on the dependence of shrinkage of composite PLA thermoplastics on the processing temperature of wood filler and concentration in the composite are obtained in this paper. The indicators of the tensile strength of the composite depending on the content of the filler and the temperature of its processing are also presented.
As a result of the research, the effectiveness of using thermally modified shredded wood as filler for the production of biodegradable natural composite thread used in extrusion technologies for molten plastics in 3D printing was revealed.
