Taking into account the increase of maritime activities in the port of Constanta, the largest port of Romania and also one of the most important of the European Union (EU), the air quality evaluation is necessary. Moreover, the port is located very close to the city with the same name and this favouring the risk to affect a very large number of inhabitants of the city with the exhaust gases resulting from the port activities. The goal of this study is to evaluate the influence of maritime activities on air quality. In this respect, a series of ships operating in Constanta harbour for a short period of time has been identified. Samples of similar vessel types have been defined to make statistical calculation easier. The results of this study can help the decision makers to take the necessary measures for the air pollution reduction and also to identify the rule changes regarding the gas emissions provided by the ship activities, finally resulting in sustainable activity not only from an economic point of view but also from an environmental perspective.
