The transportation infrastructure belongs among the factors, which significantly affect the development of economy and living standard in the country. The development of the highway network, therefore, belongs to priorities. Slovakia has a programme of completion of highway network with length 660 kilometres with the priority of connection to the international multimodal corridors. The preparation and construction of highways sections are gradually shifting from flat territory of Slovakia to the hilly and mountainous part in the Carpathian region. After the detailed evaluation of alternatives and multi-criteria assessment of highway and expressway impact on environmental conditions, there are 35 tunnels in a project with a total length of 83 kilometres (19 tunnels project with a total length of 48 kilometres on highways and 16 tunnels project with a total length of 35 kilometres on expressways).
This paper presents the Technical recommendation ? the concrete pavement design method used for the design and calculation of pavement structures. According to the different ?climate conditions? in tunnels (concerning temperature gradients in the slab), there are in design method modification for short, medium and long tunnels. |
