Due to pressures to conserve energy, many buildings have in recent times been retrofitted with additional insulation. This has resulted in the appearance of microorganisms on the surfaces of building facades more frequently than before. This does not mean, however, that these microorganisms are not also found on uninsulated buildings. In earlier years, the facades of the apartment buildings were not aesthetically distinctive, often using colors such as gray, beige, and the like. Microorganisms may not have been as visible on such facades, compared to today's colorful facades, on which, for example, mosses and algae can be seen well.
The article deals with the comparison of two different locations in Ostrava with respect to the thermal technical issues. The first of the locations is adjacent to a high-frequency automobile traffic route and also close to the industrial zone in the lower Vitkovice area. In contrast to the first location, the second locality is defined by a typical housing estate in a remote part of Ostrava, with a high level of vegetation and low automobile traffic (Poruba).
