As a world heritage site Rila monastery is continuously monitored, including seismically, ensuring proper maintenance and preservation for future generations. Th? instrumental data is acquired by the monastery?s accelerograph stations that are local units of the National Strong Ground Motion (SGM) Network run by the NIGGG-BAN.
Considering the seismic history of our lands, it is indispensable to assess periodically the characteristics of significant earthquake impacts on important sites as this one. The current seismic monitoring system of Rila monastery records earthquakes in the form of accelerograms. The latest decade most serious seismic attacks of 2012 and 2013 on the heritage site were recorded in the course of respective earthquake events. Then the selected raw data is initially processed, classified and put through homogeneous SGM data processing. The produced corrected accelerograms are analysed and subjected to derivative processing to obtain earthquake engineering relevant characteristics, followed by a process of assessment. The outcome is presented in adequate numerical and graphic layout. The results obtained are essential for earthquake/structural engineers and architects that are expected to keep and protect the integrity of the building structures on the site, preventing damages by applying advanced earthquake resistance design methods and relevant retrofit. |
