The article considers the criteria of typification of municipal solid waste according to their degree of danger. It is proposed the approaches based on the adaptation of the criteria to the differentiation of unauthorized landfills depending on the extent of their negative impact on the environment and human health. The criteria of typification of MSW landfills are formulated on the basis of analysis of waste composition, location of dump, its area and environmental hazards. Environmental hazard of landfills is determined on the basis of the following parameters: volume of resulting filtrate, lifetime of landfill, temperature contrast landfilled waste with the background. To find the volume of the resulting filtrate, the authors propose to use the equation of water balance. The contours of identified unauthorized landfills and related attribute information should be applied to the digital map in a geographic information system. Its toolkit allows us to make objective management decisions aimed at the elimination of operational pollution of the urban area.
