The main factor for determination the floodplain terrace as a geomorphological body is the inundation of the bottom of river valleys by flood and high waters. However, to determinate a high floodplain and separate it from other terraces, it is necessary to use other natural components. Expeditionary and field research conducted by the Kazan Federal University on the study of small and medium rivers (more than 156 completed) in the Middle Volga region from 1983 to the present time made it possible to determine that the middle mark of flood level with a correlation coefficient of 0, 68 the genesis of floodplain alluvium can be the leading criteria for dismemberment of the floodplain terraces and the recognizing of high floodplains.
