Riparian ecosystems play significant role both in the natural and man related activities. They are important part of the hydrological cycle and ecosystem services. They actively support many processes connected to the environment wellbeing, floods retention and mitigation, erosion reducing, river restoration. But under the climate and climate change specifics and anthropogenic works they are under continuous pressure, surely affecting their natural development. To safe and mitigate presented impacts various measures are obtained in the context of sustainable management realization. Part of them is the monitoring process, allowing proper identification of riparian ecosystems state and connected variations, with regard to some disturbances or future trends detection.
In help of professionals in the area this material is focused on the riparian ecosystems, their maintenance and management, with accent on the monitoring processes. Accounting needed interdisciplinary approach a brief clarification concerning their specifics is presented. Following Bulgarian and Romanian considerations with regard to European and worldwide perspective is briefly presented, taking into account practical and legislative norms and the possibilities for possible future improvements. |
