Adequate treatment of industrial and communal wastes is one of the urgent challenges nowadays. The worsening critical situation in the sphere of waste management has turned the minor issue into a global problem. About (55?60) million tons of municipal solid wastes (MSW) are generated in Russia annually. More than 90% of them are stored in landfill sites and unauthorized landfills. The progressive growth of the municipal solid waste volumes from year to year makes the problem even more urgent. Biotechnological disposal of the organic fraction of the MSW by solid-state anaerobic digestion (SSAD), where the content of dry matter is 15?40 percent, in bioreactors is a promising approach, because it is conducted in the systems having no direct contact with the environment. Therefore, such systems have no negative impact on it. The proposed method allows generating such valuable products as biogas and organomineral fertilizer. Waste pretreatment by different physical and mechanical, chemical and biological methods is used to intensify the SSAD process. In this paper the impact of the pretreatment of a model mixture of the MSW organic fraction in an apparatus of the vortex layer with ferromagnetic particles on the main parameters of the fermented mixture and on SSAD process is studied. Dispersion of waste particles in the vortex layer apparatus is achieved by the action of ferromagnetic working cylinders placed in a tube of non-magnetic material and intensively moving in it due to an external rotating magnetic field. The fundamental parameters of the model mixture of the MSW organic fraction were compared before and after treatment in the vortex layer apparatus. It is found, that the time of the methanogenesis initiation is decreased. Pretreatment of the model mixture in the vortex layer apparatus helped also to increase biogas production during SSAD process.
