A survey carried out in October 2018 on Cricovului Sarat Valley, along a distance of about 5 km that crossed the Gornet-Cricov commune revealed few ecological aspects of this Subcarpathian area located in Prahova County, Romania.
We inventoried the resources of vegetation and associated invertebrates, listing the most relevant taxons that populate the river banks. So far, representatives from 15 plant families (Adoxaceae, Amaranthaceae, Apiaceae, Asteraceae, Caryophyllaceae, Euphorbiaceae, Fabaceae, Plantaginaceae, Poaceae, Polygonaceae, Ranunculaceae, Rosaceae, Rubiaceae, Salicaceae, Tamaricaceae), seven arthropod taxa (Araneae, Coleoptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Homoptera, Lepidoptera, Orthoptera) and land snails (Styllomatophora) were attributed to the investigated areal.
In addition, the physico-chemical analysis of water samples collected from Cricovul Sarat River aimed to assess the values of several quality parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity (EC), total dissolved solids (TDS) and nitrogen pollutant species. Due to the fact that the salinity of water strongly influences the quality, there are restrictions for using it for drinking, irrigation or for industrial purposes.
This report also indicate the presence of anthropic pressure, mainly solid waste disposed on the sand and gravel shores and even discharged in the water of Cricovul Sarat River. The present data illustrate the first knowledge regarding the biodiversity potential and water quality encountered in the environment of Cricovului Sarat Valley.
