The paper deals with the chlorine in sintering process overview. Chlorine penetrates to iron making process from raw charge already in the coke making from coal and sintering process. Beside it can causes corrosion problems in blast furnace facilities, it causes environmental problems too. It is know that sintering of iron ores is a industrial source of polychlorinated dibenzo ? p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs). The paper gives overview of how the municipal solid waste incineration (MSWI) fly ash effects on the behaviour of dioxins and furans. In some countries, incineration is the main disposal method of municipal solid waste. Fly ash from municipal solid waste must be utilized. One of the methodologies of use of the waste is thermal treatment processes, such as sintering. In addition, the behaviour of chlorine in the metallurgical coke production process should be monitored. Metallurgical coke is a part of the charge to the sintering process as well as to the blast furnace process. High levels of chlorine in coal can cause increased chlorine content in the coke or in the flue gas. According to some studies, formation of volatile alkali compounds increased in proportion to the amount of chlorine in raw materials.
