Dust which comes from the flue gas purification in the process of thermal transformation of municipal wastes is classified as dangerous wastes. Their management poses a big problem. As a method of safe management, the dust may be used for the production of concrete as a partial replacement for the cement. By applying immobilization it is possible to reduce dangerous compounds and the material obtained becomes safe for the natural environment. Such a form of the dust application corresponds to modern waste management with a closed circuit.
The paper will present test results of leachability of pollutants from the dust that come from the process of purification of waste gases in the system of thermal transformation of municipal wastes and from the concrete blocks fabricated on the basis of CEM I cement, where 30% of the cement is replaced with tested dust. The results of the conducted tests confirm that the immobilization is an efficient process which decreases the content of pollutants in the aqueous extract. The zinc, cadmium, cobalt, iron, manganese and nickel are almost totally immobilized in the C?S?H phase. The degree of immobilization exceeds 90%. Also, copper content undergoes immobilization at a similar level of 90%. However, plum content shows a lower degree of immobilization, though still exceeding 56%. |
