Since 2007, eco-innovation has been a focus in the European Union. The Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme aimed to support eco-innovation initiatives among small and medium enterprises and enhance their competitiveness. In Latvia, a small number of enterprises are engaged in the field of environmental technologies and eco-innovation. The low awareness of the general public about green growth potential limits the demand for eco-innovative products and makes the ecoinnovation sector a weak business niche in Latvia. The research aims to identify and examine the key factors conducive to and hindering eco-innovation development in Latvia. To achieve the aim, the following research methods were employed: monographic, statistical analysis and quantitative and qualitative analysis. Information sources used: specialised economic literature, research papers, and scientific conference proceedings from the databases: EBSCO, Science Direct and Scopus, as well as the European Union?s legal acts and directives, the national legal framework and statistical data of Eurostat, the OECD and other international institutions.
