The article discusses the various ways in which environmental factors influence socioeconomic welfare of individuals in the regions of Russian Federation, with an in-depth look at the regions of Ural Federal District. We use regression analysis to examine the mechanisms of direct influence that environmental factors have on individual welfare indicators, healthcare, social and economic welfare modules, and, finally, on the composite welfare index. We then examine the indirect influence of environmental factors, manifested via the welfare of inhabited areas and socioeconomic state of a region. Using classification methods, we establish groups of regions that exhibit similar tendencies and interrelations between environmental indicators and socioeconomic indicators. We use this classification as a basis for additional inter-district analysis of relations between neighboring regions and regions with strong economic ties. Finally, we demonstrate how the article's findings help contextualize the effect that mining and metalworking industries have on Sverdlovskaya and Chelyabinskaya oblasts of UFD.
